Vingt ans après…
Les tout premiers travaux scientifiques portant sur les liens entre photographie et littérature ont une vingtaine d’année, à présent. Après la parution simultanée aux PUR, en 2008, du livre de Paul Edwards, Soleil noir, et de Littérature et Photographie dirigé par Liliane Louvel, Danièle Méaux, Jean-Pierre Montier & Philippe Ortel, c’est un collectif de chercheurs qui s’est constitué, se rapprochant de chercheurs québécois (Martine Delvaux, Bertrand Gervais, Vincent Lavoie, Catherine Mavrikakis, Andréa Oberhuber) pour déposer le projet PHLIT, qui a reçu les labels et soutiens du CFQCU et de la MSHB.
Depuis 2011, grâce au recrutement de Gyöngyi Pál comme ingénieure de recherche, et en collaboration avec la Société Artefacto, nous avons mis en place le site phlit.org dont nous avons pour ambition qu’il devienne à terme le site de référence mondial sur la photolittérature.
Un an après…
La Journée d’Etude intitulée « Nouveaux développements » se propose de réunir quelques-uns de ces chercheurs à Rennes les 22 et 23 mars 2012 avec trois objectifs :
1. faire le point sur la réalisation du projet
2. impliquer des auteurs (écrivains et photographes) dans la dynamique de PHLIT
3. poursuivre les contributions scientifiques à notre recherche commune
L’événement sera accompagné de l’exposition de photographies de Paul Edwards intitulé “Trees and Tangled Banks”.

PHLIT: New Directions in Photoliterature

It was twenty years ago today…
The first bibliographies and articles on photoliterature started trickling out in the early nineties, soon to become a flood. Following the PUR’s double whammy — Soleil noir by Paul Edwards and Littérature et Photographie edited by Liliane Louvel, Danièle Méaux, Jean-Pierre Montier and Philippe Ortel — scholars and experts decided to pool their resources and work on a common project. Researchers from Quebec (Martine Delvaux, Bertrand Gervais, Vincent Lavoie, Catherine Mavrikakis, Andréa Oberhuber) joined the team to head Project Phlit, which received immediate support from the CFQCU and MSHB. The phlit.org site is now up and running, thanks to the full-time collaboration of research engineer Gyöngyi Pal and the computer graphics company Artefacto. It is destined to be the ultimate web reference in photoliterature.
A year on from the site’s inauguration, we are holding a Study Day entitled “Phlit: New Directions in Photoliterature”.
Three aims:
1. To convene the principal actors of the project and discuss current progress.
2. To involve writers and photographers in the creation of new works for Project Phlit.
3. To pursue the intellectual and scientific activities of the Project itself.
There will also be an exhibition of original photographs by Paul Edwards entitled “Trees and Tangled Banks”.
